Three college students were killed on the spot in a tragic road accident after a high-speed two-wheeler lost control and collided with a tipper lorry near Agalakote village on the Channahalli–Bettakote Road on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred around 11.20 am within the limits of the Devanahalli Traffic Police Station.
According to the police,Manikantha (20) was riding an Aprilia scooter (KA-05-JY-9584) at a high speed with two pillion riders—Srinivas (19) and Tauseef (19). All three were residents of Chikkajala and were pursuing degree courses.
While negotiating a curve near Agalakote village, Manikantha allegedly lost control of the scooter due to overspeeding and negligence.The vehicle mounted the road divider,crossed over to the opposite lane,and skidded onto the carriageway.
As a result,all three riders were thrown onto the road.At the same time,a tipper lorry (KA-53-AB-3519) travelling from Budigere towards Devanahalli at a high speed allegedly ran over the injured youths, killing them instantly.
The lorry driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.However,following an investigation,the Devanahalli traffic police traced the vehicle and arrested the driver, identified as Ningappa M.Kattimani, a native of Bijapura.
A case has been registered against Manikantha as accused number one for rash and negligent riding, and against the lorry driver as accused number two under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Further investigation is underway.
