A six-year-old girl was found murdered in a migrant colony at Pattandur Agrahara in Whitefield on Monday, sending shockwaves through the area.
Senior officer told reporters that the victim,Shahnaz Khatun,was the second daughter of Inzamam Sheikh,a migrant labourer from West Bengal.
During investigation it was revealed that,the child was playing in front of her makeshift house when her father briefly returned home for lunch and saw her outside.
Sheikh told the police that he also noticed a man later identified as Yusuf Meer,a native of West Bengal who lived near their residence,in the vicinity at the time.
A few minutes later,when the parents realised Shahnaz was missing,they began searching for her frantically.Her body was later found dumped in a drain nearby.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the girl was strangled to death.Police said there were no signs of sexual assault and added that the murder appeared to have been committed due to personal vengeance.
Based on a complaint filed by the family,the Whitefield police have registered a case of murder and launched a manhunt to trace the accused.
However,a distraught Inzamam Sheikh told the police that he had no personal enmity or financial dispute with the suspect.Further investigation is underway.
