8-month-old boy rescued from alleged sacrifice ritual for treasure in Bengaluru

Members of child welfare committee and district police on Sunday rescued an eight-month-old baby boy following a complaint of suspected ritual sacrifice for treasure.

According to police and child protection sources, officials from Childline (1098) and the District Child Protection Unit acted on an anonymous tip that a child was about to be killed as part of a ritual intended to bring wealth.

Following the complaint the officials raided the house situated in Janatha Colony, Sulibele village and rescued the baby .

The couple were taken into custody for further investigation.the officials found the couple had dig up the hug from inside and placed coconut and incense sticks and other pooja items .

Ritual items including a dug hole and ceremonial materials were reportedly present at the scene when officials arrived.

The child,who was said to be stable and undergoing a medical examination,had allegedly been adopted by the couple from a migrant worker family from Kolar without following smy legal procedure.

Both the couple have been detained by Sulibele police, and an investigation is underway into the circumstances of the attempted sacrifice and the alleged adoption and child-buying arrangements.

The couple was summoned by the CWC committee as part of the probe based on the outcome necessary legal action will be taken.
