Strict Compliance with Safety Regulations Mandatory in Service Apartments,Hostels and PGs–D.S.Ramesh

The Commissioner of the Bengaluru East City Corporation,D.S. Ramesh,stated that the owners, operators and managers of all service apartments, hostels and paying guest (PG) accommodations within the City Corporation’s limits must inspect their premises and ensure strict compliance,within the stipulated time, with all safety regulations prescribed by the City Corporation,along with all other applicable safety norms.

The primary objective of this measure is to prevent the recurrence of tragic incidents such as recent gas explosions and fire accidents,and to ensure the safety of public life and property. In this context,owners,operators and managers must personally ensure that their establishments fully comply with all prescribed safety standards.

*Key safety regulations to be complied with:

• Safe and authorized use of LPG/gas connections.

• Complete prohibition of illegal and unsafe gas cylinders.

• Adequate ventilation and fire safety measures.

• Electrical safety and measures to prevent overloading.

• Valid and existing trade licences and all required registrations.

*Time granted for compliance:

A period of seven (7) days has been granted to all service apartments, hostels and PG establishments to rectify the above-mentioned safety deficiencies and to ensure full compliance with all applicable laws and licence conditions.

*Inspection and enforcement action:

After the expiry of the stipulated period,the City Corporation will undertake a special inspection drive. Strict action will be initiated against service apartments, hostels and PG establishments that fail to comply with safety regulations.

Such action will include sealing of the premises and cancellation or suspension of trade licences.

Further, penalties will be imposed under the Greater Bengaluru Authority Act,2024,and other applicable laws.

If violations are found to pose a serious threat to life and public safety, legal action will be initiated against the concerned establishments.
