Woman Set On Fire After Rejecting Daughter’s Marriage Proposal In Basaveshwaranagar

The Basaveshwaranagar police are on the lookout for a tea stall owner for setting fire to a woman after she refused to marry off her daughter to him,in a shocking incident reported from Basaveshwaranagar in the early hours of Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 1 am at Saneguru Vanahalli in Basaveshwara Nagar.

The accused, identified as Muthu,allegedly poured petrol on the woman,Geetha,and set her ablaze.

Senior officer told reporters that Muthu was known to the victim and her family had been living in close association with them.

Geetha ran a provision store for her livelihood,while the accused operated a tea stall in the same locality.

He further said the accused had been pressuring Geetha to marry off her 19-year-old daughter to him.When the woman repeatedly refused,he allegedly resorted to threats and harassment.Enraged by her refusal,the accused allegedly attacked her by pouring petrol and setting her on fire.

Geetha sustained over 50 percent burn injuries and is currently battling for life at Victoria Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

Basaveshwaranagar police have registered a case of attempt to murder and launched a manhunt to nab the accused,who is absconding. Further investigation is underway.
