Surprise Jail Inspection Leads to Seizure of Prohibited Items at Bengaluru Central Prison

As part of the “Prison Reforms Special Inspection Drive” initiated by Alok Kumar, IPS,Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services), Karnataka,a series of surprise inspections were conducted at Bengaluru Central Prison on December 23, 2025.

The inspections were carried out at different intervals:
From 2:50 pm to 3:15 pm under the leadership of S.J. Jakati,Assistant Jailer.

From 8:40 pm to 9:00 pm led by Paramesh H.J,Deputy Superintendent of Police (Prisons).

From 9:30 pm to 9:45 pm under Karnabikshatri, Assistant Superintendent.

During the inspections,the following prohibited items were seized:
03 keypad mobile phones.
01 Android mobile phone.
01 SIM card.
01 mobile charger.
01 pair of ear buds.
01 earphone.

Police said that cases have been registered against those who smuggled the prohibited items,those who assisted them,and inmates who used them inside the prison.

The cases have been booked under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act, 2022,along with other applicable sections,at Parappana Agrahara Police Station.

Appreciating the effective inspection,DGP Alok Kumar, as per the directions of Anshukumar,IPS,Additional Director General of Police,announced a cash reward of Rs.5,000 for the inspection team.

Commendation certificates were also awarded to Paramesh H.J. and Karnabikshatri for their role.

Seizures Since November 11,2025:

Between November 11, 2025,and December 24, 2025, a total of 16 FIRs have been registered.The overall seizures include:
109 mobile phones.
24 chargers.
88 SIM cards.
18 earphones/earbuds.
₹64,880 in cash.
18 sharp objects.

Tobacco products and cigarettes (prohibited items)
Officials said the inspections will continue as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities inside prisons and strengthen prison discipline.
