A 39-year-old woman was shot dead allegedly by her estranged husband in West Bengaluru on Monday evening.
The accused later walked into the Magadi Road police station and surrendered,confessing to the crime.
The deceased has been identified as Bhuvaneshwari (39),an Assistant Manager with Union Bank of India, Basaveshwaranagar branch.She was residing in Rajajinagar with her two children.
Senior officer told reporters that the accused Balamurugan(40),a software engineer formerly employed with Capgemini in Whitefield,was married to the victim in 2011.
The couple had been living separately for the past one-and-a-half years following marital discord,allegedly arising from the husband’s suspicion that the victim was having an extramarital affair.
Police said the victim had been seeking legal separation, which the accused reportedly opposed.Six months ago, Bhuvaneshwari was transferred from her Whitefield posting and shifted her residence without informing her husband.
After tracing her whereabouts,the accused moved closer to her residence in the Cholurpalya–K.P.Agrahara limits about four months ago.
Investigators revealed that the accused had received a divorce notice from his wife about a week ago.
On December 23, 2025,between 6.30 pm and 7 pm,the accused allegedly waited near her route as she was returning home from work after an evening walk and opened fire at her using a pistol.
Bhuvaneshwari sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to Shanbhag Hospital,where doctors declared her brought dead.
Following the incident,the accused walked into the Magadi Road police station,confessed to the murder, and surrendered.
A case has been registered under Section 103 at Magadi Road Police Station.Further investigation is underway.
