A 42-year-old man died after being run over by a bus on the Hegganahalli Main Road in Kamakshipalya traffic police limits,police said on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Chetan Kumar.
Senior officer said the incident occurred around 7 pm on December 13.Preliminary investigation revealed that Kumar,who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was walking unsteadily on the road after consuming liquor at a bar.
He reportedly lost balance and fell on the road,during which a bus coming from behind ran over him,crushing him under its rear tyre and died on the spot.
The bus driver fled the scene without informing the police.
A case was registered by the Kamakshipalya traffic police,who later traced the vehicle and the driver using CCTV footage from the area.
The absconding driver,Narendra,was arrested following the analysis of surveillance footage, officer said.Further investigation is underway.
