In a major crackdown on illegal activities inside prisons, Bengaluru police conducted multiple raids and registered several cases between November 26 and December 16, 2025,leading to the seizure of mobile phones,SIM cards,cash and other prohibited items from inmates.
According to an official press release issued by the Prison department,inspections were carried out under prison reforms campaign initiative following specific intelligence inputs.
The raids were conducted between 8:15 am and 8:50 am on December 16.
A total of Eight FIRs were registered during the operation.The seizures included:
79 mobile phones,16 chargers,59 SIM cards,14 earphones,Rs.64,880 in cash,18 sharp objects.
Other prohibited items,including two packets of gold flakes,King cigarette packets,and 60 grams of Ganja
Date-wise Seizure Details:
On December 16,police seized 6 mobile phones,2 chargers,5 SIM cards,4 earphones and 5 sharp objects.
On December 9,14 mobile phones,5 chargers,9 SIM cards,2 earphones and 10 sharp objects were recovered.
The largest haul was on November 28,when 33 mobile phones,5 chargers,22 SIM cards,4 ear buds,one car phone and Rs.49,000 cash were seized.
Police officials stated that the operation was conducted under provisions of the Prisons Act,2022,and further investigation is underway to identify the source of contraband supply and the involvement of prison staff,if any.
Authorities reiterated that strict action will continue to prevent misuse of mobile phones and maintain discipline inside correctional facilities.
Director General of prisons and correctional administration,Alok Kumar,supervising the drive said that the drive will continue to crack down on contrabands, break nexus and streamline the system.
