It was a mixed reaction from the Home Minister,G. Parameshwara,who on one hand congratulated the city police team for cracking the case in record time but also bemoaned the involvement of police constable as prime accused in the case.
Taking a strong exception while meeting after the senior police officials Mr.Parameshwara said police personnel involved in such criminal acts will be dismissed followed by strict legal action .
Speaking to the media he said that he has issued strict instructions to senior police officers to remain vigilant and ensure discipline within the department.
Speaking to reporters after holding a review meeting with the senior officials at his Sadashivanagar residence, the Minister said Bengaluru Police have arrested seven accused in the ₹7.11 crore cash-van robbery case,while a few more suspects are yet to be traced.
One policeman was also involved in the offence,he added.Three special teams cracked the case and arrested the accused.
The Minister congratulated the Commissioner, two Joint Commissioners, two DCPs and more than 200 staff members involved in the investigation.
He said the robbery had brought disrepute to Bengaluru and posed a major challenge to the police department.
So far, ₹6.29 crore has been recovered.The remaining amount will also be traced.The accused had executed the plan with extreme caution but the police have solved the case using advanced technical methods, he said.
Mr. Parameshwara added that he has instructed officers to stay more alert going forward.“If any police personnel are found involved in such crimes, strict and uncompromising action will be taken.They will be dismissed from service without hesitation and legal action will follow,”he warned.
He also confirmed that arrests have been made in the Koramangala incident reported yesterday.
The government will also examine whether the agency handling the cash-van followed RBI guidelines,and action will be taken if violations are found.
