Home Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday said that the suspects involved in the Rs.7.11-crore cash van robbery in Bengaluru had switched vehicles with fake number plates soon after the heist, making the investigation more complex.

Addressing reporters in Bengaluru,Parameshwara said the police have developed strong leads and expressed confidence that the culprits will be arrested soon.

It is yet to be clear which vehicle was used by them during the escape.

It was verified that they had changed the vehicles and moved the money. Investigations are on to ascertain if this vehicle has left the state.

One vehicle (Toyota Innova) they used in the heist contained the registration number belonging to a Maruti Suzuki Swift,”owned by a private person not related to the case.

Mr.Parameshwara added that officials are scanning CCTV footage across the city to trace and neighbouring districts have been analysed to ascertain the movement of the suspects and to determine whether they are from Karnataka or other states.

The robbery took place on Wednesday afternoon when the accused posing as RBI officials—intercepted a CMS cash van near Jayanagar.

They later diverted it towards the Dairy Circle flyover, where they allegedly robbed the cash by threatening the driver at gunpoint.

The gang used at least two more vehicles and these vehicles could be the getaway car used to escape.
