The Sadashivanagar police on Thursday arrested a 23-year-old software engineer for knocking down a family of three in a suspected hit-and-run case on New BEL Road.
The accused identified as Sukrit Keshav Gowda,a resident of Kodigehalli and employee of a private company in Whitefield,has been tracked down based on a complaint filed by one of the victim .
The incident occurred on October 26,around 7.11 pm, when the accused driving his car was in a rash and negligent way and rammed into scooter from behind near MS Ramaiah Hospital.
The scooter,which was on the car’s right side,was being ridden by Vineth A (33),a businessman from Vidyaranyapura,with his wife Anikita Patel (31)and their young son as pillion riders.
The impact caused the scooter to crash into the road divider, throwing the family onto the road.Gowda allegedly fled the spot without stopping to help,police said.
Passersby rushed the injured to MS Ramaiah Hospital, where Anikita,who sustained injuries to her left hand, shoulder, and head, and Vineth,who suffered rib injuries, were treated and discharged.
However,Vineth later visited St John’s Hospital near Koramangala after the pain aggravated.
Initially,the case was registered at the Sadashivanagar Traffic Police Station,but after further investigation confirmed it was a hit-and-run, it was transferred to the Sadashivanagar Law and Order Police.
The hospital booked a medico legal case and referred to police an FIR filed on November 6,Inspector Girish launched a probe and arrested the accused near Balaji Layout.
The accused has been booked under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
