A 14-year-old girl died by suicide at her residence in Chamarajpet on Saturday evening while her family members were away on a temple visit.

The deceased has been identified as Sharmila,14,a Class 9 student of St.Theresa’s High School in Chamarajpet.

According to the police,Sharmila’s parents and siblings had gone to Tamilnadu to visit the Angalaparameshwari Temple on November 8,leaving her at home with her grandmother since she had an examination the next day.

On Sunday afternoon around 3:30 p.m.,Sharmila called her mother to inform her that her grandmother was leaving for work and might return late, asking them to come home early.Later calls from her mother around 5 p.m. reportedly went unanswered.

When the grandmother returned home around 9 p.m., she found the main door locked from inside. Despite repeatedly knocking and calling out to Sharmila, there was no response.

With the help of neighbours, she broke open the door and found the girl hanging from an iron rod in the ceiling with a saree.

The grandmother immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and recovered the body in the presence of family members.

The parents told the police that Sharmila might have taken the extreme step due to some personal or emotional distress and stated that they do not suspect any foul play.

The Kalasipalya police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the matter.Initial probe revealed that she was upset about the death of her friends who ended her life few days ago and police are suspecting that this could be one of the reason behind her extreme step .
