Bengaluru’s advanced wastewater treatment and reuse infrastructure has been widely praised by experts from NITI Aayog and delegates representing various states, who described the city’s system as a national model for urban used-water management.
A high-level team of officials and sector specialists participating in the National Workshop on the Reuse of Treated Wastewater visited the KC Valley STP and the Cubbon Park Tertiary Treatment Plant today (November 7),where they reviewed the city’s technology-driven approach and large-scale reuse operations.
Praise for Technology and Execution
•KC Valley STP:Delegates were briefed on operations at the KC Valley facility, one of Bengaluru’s largest sewage treatment plants, where nearly 440 MLD of wastewater is treated daily using advanced multi-stage processes.
•Appreciation:The visiting representatives commended BWSSB for deploying modern treatment technologies and running one of the country’s most efficient wastewater management systems. Many described the project as a benchmark for other urban centres.
National-Level Achievement:
Delegates noted that Bengaluru is among the leading Indian cities in wastewater treatment capacity, standing second in the country in terms of overall used-water management. Organising a national workshop in Bengaluru, they said, is a fitting recognition of the city’s leadership and provides an opportunity for other states to learn from its model.
“As per the directions of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and under the guidance of Chief Secretary Dr. Shalini Rajneesh and Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development) Tushar Giri Nath, the BWSSB team successfully organised the NITI Aayog workshop and shared detailed technical insights on wastewater treatment. Delegates expressed satisfaction that these technical practices and learnings are well-suited for adoption by other cities across the country.”
