An unusual silence prevails at the Bellandur police station following the suspension of a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and a constable for allegedly misbehaving with a former PSU senior executive while handling the case of his daughter’s death under mysterious circumstances.

The action came after a social media post by the bereaved father went viral, prompting the city police commissioner to order an inquiry and suspend the personnel involved.

According to police, the case pertains to the death of a 34-year-old techie who reportedly suffered a fatal head injury after slipping in the bathroom at her residence.

She was admitted to a private hospital but succumbed during treatment.

Based on a medico-legal case (MLC) report from the hospital, police had registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the woman, employed in a reputed multinational company with a high-paying job, had been in depression following a breakup with her partner of seven years.

Police sources said she had frequent arguments with her parents over marriage proposals.During one such argument, she reportedly walked away to the bathroom in distress, where she slipped and sustained a severe head injury.

While following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), police conducted a spot inspection and questioned family members and doctors.

However, the family accused the police of being insensitive and arrogant in their approach and even alleged corruption.

The social media post highlighting these accusations triggered outrage online, following which senior officials suspended the PSI and constable as a deterrent measure.

Responding to allegations that the ambulance and mortuary staff demanded money,a senior police officer clarified that the ambulance involved was a private service, and the family had to pay for transportation.

He further explained that mortuary staff often ask families to bear the cost of consumables such as plastic sheets, cotton, and suture threads,as these are not covered under government provisions.

“The incident appears to have been misrepresented due to an emotional outburst from the grieving parent. The staff were only performing their duty but have unfortunately become scapegoats,”the officer added.

Personnel at Bellandur police station expressed dismay over the episode, calling it “demoralising” and lamenting that policing remains a thankless job where officers are often blamed despite following procedure.
