A 78-year-old man has complained to Cyber Crime Police,seeking a detailed investigation into an alleged scam by a company that has been dispatching fake products to random addresses under the Cash on Delivery (COD) option.
Based on the complaint filed by Lava Kumar,Resident of JP Nagar,the cyber crime police have registered a case against unknown person charging under IT act and also under cheating and impersonation of BNS sections on Friday for further investigation.
In his complaint mr.Kumar said that the incident occurred on October 11 when he was at home and received a parcel from a reputed courier company in the name of his daughter from DTDC courier service.
The product was 90 grams of korean peel face mask worth Rs.699 .
Upon checking with daughter she said she did not order anything like that .
On suspicion Mr.kumar visited the branch office at Puttenahalli and got the information that the parcel was sourced from a company in Delhi.
Mr.Kumar further probed about the company online and found that many people have cheated across the country in similar fashion and raised a complaint online.
The police have began probe and summon the people concerned for questioning to ascertain the facts.
Police said that the company suspected to have sourced the data and address from social media and send it to people randomly to sell their product and cheat them.
While many refused to accept the parcel while some out of curiousity take it and get cheated since the money involved in the cheating is less they refrain approaching the police .
