An 81-year-old woman was killed and four others sustained injuries after a suspected LPG cylinder explosion at their house in KR Puram on Saturday morning.
The impact of the explosion was so high that the house their were living partially collapsed and other three houses in the neighbourhood developed cracks .
The residents in and around the Triveni Nagar startled to the sound which was reportedly heard up to four to five kilometres away.
The incident occurred at a house owned by Ramesh and rented to Shekhar and his family about nine months ago. Shekhar lived there with his two children—Chandana and Kiran Kumar—and his elderly mother, Akkayyamma.
Fire and emergency personnel rushed to the spot and rescued Akkayyamma from the debris while the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.
While Akkayyamma succumbed to her injuries later her granddaughter Chandana (22) is said to be in critical .
Senior officer told reporters that ,the incident occurred around 7.15 am at Triveni Nagar.Akkayyamma was asleep when the roof slab collapsed on her due to the impact of the explosion.
Three others—Shekhar(55),his son Kiran Kumar,(24),and a neighbour,Kanchana,(45)—sustained injuries.Shekar’s wife passed away a year ago.
“Shekhar told the police that the blast occurred when a family member switched on the stove .
We suspect that the gas leaked and accumulated in the house which caused the explosion.Fire and emergency service personnel,police and FSL team are probing further to ascertain the exact cause of the fire .
Residents in and around the area thought it could be Deepavali fire crackers,but after noticing people rushing out of the house towards the house,to see the house had collapsed .
Union Minister,Shobha Karandlaje and KR Puram constituency,MLA,Byrathi Basavaraj visited the accident site and assured necessary help.
