The Hulimavu police have arrested a 49-year-old fake Tantrik,who was cheating gullible people offering special rituals to ward off evil and help them to multiply their wealth .
The accused Dadapeer,from Kolar was arrested from Bannerghatta where he was moving around suspiciously looking for the prospective clients to sell the valuables .
Based on his confession,the police recovered 485.4 grams of gold valuables worth Rs.53 lakh which he had kept at his house in Kolar and part of it he had pawned in a jewellery shop in Nagpur.
Explaining the Modus Operandi, M,Narayana,DCP, Electronic City Division,said that the accused used to lure people with his charm telling that a spell of evil has caste in the house and offered to ward off with special rituals which can help multiply their wealth.
The accused would get all the gold valuables on the pretext of performing rituals,pack them in a box in front of them with a directions to keep it in the puja room for 21 days without opening.
While packing the accused would divert the attention and replace the valuables with pebbles and stones and escape, the officer,said .
With his arrest the police have cracked as many as four cheating cases and further investigations are on to ascertain his criminal records,a senior officer,said .
