Bengaluru Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara has come under fire after images showing a rowdy sheeter celebrating his birthday inside the jail with other inmates surfaced online,exposing breaches in prison discipline and preferential treatment of inmates.
On one hand, the prison officials refused to provide extra bed pillow to film actor Darshan,citing no preferential treatment, a video of a rowdy sheeter having birthday bash at the cell of central prison of Parappana Agrahara says different story.
Recently,the Supreme Court had strongly criticized prison authorities for giving preferential treatment to actor Darshan.
According to viral videos and photos on social media, Srinivas alias Gubbachi Seena,a Rowdy Sheeter from Sarjapur,was seen celebrating his birthday by cutting a cake inside the prison along with his associates.
He has been lodged in prison for allegedly murdering another rowdy sheeter,Venkatesh,in January.The video of the celebration was reportedly posted on an Instagram account under the name Sagar.
Prison sources said that celebrating a birthday inside the jail without the knowledge of prison officials and staff is impossible.
According to senior prison officials,the video of Srinivas’s birthday celebration may be two to three months old.Venkatesh’s wife had filed a complaint with Director General,Prisons and Correctional Services,B Dayananda,about 10 days ago regarding the incident.
Senior prison officials have been assigned to conduct an internal inquiry and submit a report on how the birthday celebration was allowed.
