The disruption in Cauvery water supply caused by emergency maintenance works has been resolved a day earlier than planned,following the instructions of Deputy Chief Minister D.K.Shivakumar,Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chairman Dr.Ram Prasath Manohar informed on Tuesday.
Explaining the background,Dr.Manohar said the maintenance was essential to ensure the smooth functioning of pumping stations and main pipelines of the Cauvery Water Supply Project,thereby safeguarding uninterrupted drinking water supply to the people of Bengaluru.
The BWSSB had earlier informed the public that water supply would be suspended on September 15, 16, and 17.
Concerned about the hardship residents might face without supply for three days,Deputy Chief Minister,D.K. Shivakumar directed that the works be expedited.
Acting on these instructions,BWSSB implemented round-the-clock shift operations.Contractors were also instructed to mobilize additional labourers from other states to speed up the work.
As a result of these efforts,the task originally scheduled for three days was completed in two,and water supply to all parts of the city resumed this morning.
Dr.Ram Prasath Manohar expressed gratitude to BWSSB staff,contractors, and workers for their dedication,and thanked the Deputy Chief Minister for his guidance in ensuring the works were completed efficiently.
