A BMTC bus gutted and around 50-60 passengers along with driver and conductor escaped narrowly in an accidental fire broke out at the HAL bus stop on Monday morning.
According to the police,the bus heading to KBS belonging to the Depot-51 (Vehicle No. KA 57 F 4568) reached the HAL bus stop,fire suddenly broke out in the engine compartment at around 5.10 am .
he driver,Jayachandra and the conductor,Chowdappa , ensured that around 60 passengers travelling in the bus were safely evacuated and sent onward by another bus. No injuries or loss of life have occurred.
Immediately after the fire was noticed, the staff informed the Fire and Emergency Services Department. Fire personnel reached the spot promptly and extinguished the fire.However,the bus has been completely gutted.
A technical team led by BMTC’s Chief Mechanical Engineer along with the police reached the spot and initiated probe to ascertain the exact cause of the fire incident. The HAL police are awaiting report to further the investigation.
The BMTC in his official statement reiterates that passenger safety is of the highest priority and assures that all necessary technical measures will be taken immediately to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
