The Hosakote police on Wednesday busted an inter state red sanders smuggling racket and arrested three people , recovered 1093 kilos of dark red wood worth Rs.25 lakh from them.
The accused identified as Ajaz Shariff,47,Fayaz Shariff, 47 and Sadiq Khan,34 were caught red handed while packing the goods at a transport godown in Kattigenahalli in Hosakote .
The accused confessed that they have sourced the wood from their contacts in Nellamalla forest range in Andhra Pradesh,transported in vehicle into the city.The accused would then pack the wood neatly in plastic bags and tape them to avoid detection.
The accused had planned to send the consignment through private transport to their contact in Haryana,the police,said.
Bengaluru district Superintendent of Police,CK Baba said that the accused are habitual offenders involved in similar cases in the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh.
The accused have been taken into custody for further investigations to ascertain the network .
