Cab driver arrested for setting his former live-in partner on fire

The Hulimavu police have arrested a cab driver for setting his 25-year-old former female friend on fire over a row over break up in Hommadevanahalli main road on Sunday.

The deceased Vanajakshi,who was separated from her husband and living with her minor son reportedly had relationship with the accused identified as Vittala for the last few years .

The accused used to fight with Vanajakshi for cheating on him and avoiding him and threatened her with dire consequences.

On Sunday Vanajakshmi along with her sister and nephew was heading to St.Johns in a car driven by Muniyappa,a distant relative with whom she allegedly had a relationship .

The accused Vittala followed them in a car and started honking.When Muniyappa slow down the car,the accused got down from the car attacked them by pouring petrol inside the car.Muniyappa tried to resist and injured in the melee.

Sensing trouble Vanajakshi,got down and began to flee, but the accused chased her and poured petrol when she tripped and fell on the ground.He lit the fire and also injured in the melee.

Passers-by who rushed to the help hearing the shouts for help and doused the fire and rushed her to the hospital,where she succumbed on Monday due to 60 per cent burn injuries .

Based on the complaint filed by Muniyappa,the police track down Vittala and taken him into custody for further investigation.
