Manhole death in Bengaluru:four held after labourer dies due to toxic fumes

A 31-year-old labourer died due to suffocation while cleaning a manhole in Akshay Nagar in RMC Yard police station limits on Sunday .

The deceased has been identified as Puttaswamy who has been hired along with another labourer identified as Antony to cleaned the clogged manhole .

The duo got into the manhole and inhales toxic gases and collapsed due to exhaustion .

The others pulled them out and taken to the hospital where Puttaswamy succumbed later while Antony is recovering.

The RMC Yard police have registered a case against three people under Manual scavenging Act,who hired the victims for the clean up work .

It is a private building constructions which connected to the manhole.The owner of the house engaged the duo offering daily wage and not provided any safety gear , the officer,said .
