BTech graduate turned thief arrested by Malleswaram Police for robbing gold chains from Jewellery shops as Prospective client recovered stolen gold worth Rs.12 Lakhs

The Malleshwaram police have arrested a 25-year-old BTech graduate who used to rob gold chains from jewellery shops after gaining entry as prospective client.

Based on the complaint by a jewellery shop owner in February,the police track down Richard Richie,native of Madikeri and recovered 132 grams of gold valuables worth Rs.12 Lakhs.

The accused had completed his engineering graduation from a city based private college in 2022 and took up crime since he could not get a job .

He was involved in several such cases and arrested by JB Nagar police few months ago.After coming out on bail the accused targeted two shops and escaped with the gold chains .

Jagadisha BR,Inspector,Malleshwaram and his crime team tracked down the accused from a lodge in his native place and arrested him.

The accused is addicted to online gambling and prostitution and used to spend money on vices and lead a lavish life,the police,said .

The police identified the accused through CCTV footage and the matched details with the crime database .

The police are further investigating to ascertain if the accused was involved in similar offences .
