The Taverekere police have arrested a 25-year-old labourer for bludgeoning a 14-year-old girl to death after raping her at house on Wednesday.
The victim was alone at her house and her parents and elder brother who are labourers had gone to work .
The accused identified as Yellappa from Raichur,also working as construction labourer staying near-by and used to visit their house frequently .
The accused who knew about the family going to work leaving the girl alone,barged into the house and raped the girl.He later bludgeoned her to death with a log when she resisted .
The accused later carried a cylinder to avoid undue attention and sped away in as bike .
The murder came to light when the elder brother returned home from work in the evening and found the victim lying dead in a pool of blood..
The police initially registered a case of murder and began to verify the CCTV footage from in and around before identifying the suspect.
The accused was arrested within hours of the murder who confessed that to the crime a senior officer said.
