Expressing deep sorrow over the death of ten innocent persons in the worst stampede at Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, former CM and MP Basavaraja Bommai demanded a high-level probe into the tragedy.

In a post on X,Bommai said following the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team lifting the IPL trophy, the state government hastily organized a victory celebration event without proper planning, leading to a tragic stampede that claimed the lives of more than ten innocent people.

Organizing two events in a hurry without any prior preparation, and allowing an overwhelming number of people to attend both, clearly demonstrates the government’s complete negligence and irresponsibility.

He pointed out that during past victories such as the World Cup and other tournaments, parades were organized in Mumbai, allowing fans to see the players from different places—offering several such examples.

In this case, there was no estimate of the number of people who would gather, and the emotional connection people have with the RCB team was not taken into account. It is evident that there was no coordination between the police and the organizers.

The state government is solely responsible for this, and there must be a full investigation into the matter, with appropriate punishment for those found guilty, Bommai said.
