Following a chain snatching incident of two bikers robbed gold chain from an elderly woman on the pretext of inquiring address on Jayamahal main road in March 3,the JC Nagar police busted a gang of four from Nagpur and recovered 87 grams of gold valuables worth rupees six lakh from them.
The prime accused identified as Shahid,34,habitual offender booked by Maharashtra police under organized crime Act and jailed for an year.
After his release in January this year, the accused formed a gang comprising of his relative and purchased a second hand bike for the job .
He changed the registration number came to city with his associate riding pillion,while two others followed Shahid in a car.
The Modus Operandi according to the police is that Shahid along with his associate move around the residential area to identify the senior citizens and rob them.
The duo using the similar modus operandi robbed a gold chain and sped away.The entire incident was caught on CCTV camera and the police based on the complaint a team of police headed by Chaitanya KM,Inspector,JC Nagar,swung into action and analyzed over 150 CCTV footage to trail the accused.
The accused escaped to Bagepalli in Chikkaballapura soon after the incident and handed over the valuables to their associate waiting for them in the car.
The police further analyzed the CCTV footage and through the registration number and CDR analysis got the contact number of the owner of the car,who had sold the vehicles to the accused .
Using the number,the police began to track down the accused to many places before zeroing in on them at Bannimantap area in Mysuru where the accused were having break fast before setting out for chain snatching spree .
Along with Shahid,the police arrested his associates and relatives identified as Shabbir,Tanveer and Ali Naki from Nagpur.
With their arrest the police managed to crack down three chain snatching cases and also prevented possible robbery cases the accused had intended in Mysuru.
