ity police commissioner on thursday suspended Inspector attached to Ramamurthynagar and five of his junior colleagues for allegedly taking bribe from drug peddler and accused of assaulting policemen and murder case accused to drop charges against him.
The accused officials,are,Muthuraj H,Umesh PSI,Firoz Khan ASI,Mahesh ASI,Manjunath HC and constable Basavaraj Allolli,have been charged with dereliction of duty,misuse of power,negligence and irresponsible behaviour and suspended.
In a suspension letter signed by,Additional Commissioner of Police, N,Satishkumar,said that the charges against the accused policemen are serious in nature which bring disrepute to the department .
The accused officials according to the charges had released four accused who had assaulted two policemen of RM Nagar on duty while they were on night beat near a bar and restaurant over a trivial row on June 30 .
The policemen Hussain sab and Anil Kumar managed to arrest the accused and brought to the station,but the accused officials drop the charges and released the accused after taking a bribe of Rs.2.2 lakh from them.
The accused officials ignored the evidence and the medical certificates submitted by injured constables .
The accused officials were also dropped the charges against a murder case suspect and released him without arresting the accused .
Even the accused officials did not mention his name in the charge sheet giving him clean chit in return of an official favour,which is being probed .
Another serious allegation against the accused is that they had released a drug peddler arrested by Head constable Iraiah red handed while peddling drugs on August,28 this year .
Mr.Iraiah had caught the accused identified as Antony and recovered four tablets a knife and cash Rs.22,000 from him.
Despite having strong evidence the accused officials let off the peddlers and did not press any charges .
The issue was brought to the notice of the City police Commissioner,B Dayananda who ordered inquiry.A detailed probe found them guilty following which the accused were suspended pending inquiry.
Continuing the accused officials will hamper the investigation and also pose threat to the witness,the suspension order stated.
The issue started last month,after anonymous letter addressed to the senior police officials,president of India and Chief Minister dated September 2024,alleging Inspector Muthuraj involved in corrupt practices and also harassing his junior staff and use unparliamentary and abusive language against the staff.
