“This is a highly anti-people government”Bommai”
Bengaluru:Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of snatching food from the people under the guise of the Anna Bhagya scheme and making the lives of Karnataka’s citizens miserable.
Speaking to the media here on Thursday, he said those living in uninhabitable areas in slums have had their BPL (Below Poverty Line) cards revoked. They are being categorized as taxpayers. Are all of them really paying taxes?.
Bommai expressed concern that canceling BPL cards would not only stop rice distribution but also halt benefits like medical and hospital facilities. This government does not understand the suffering of the people.
Referring to earlier instances,he said in the past, sites were taken back in the name of MUDA (Mysore Urban Development Authority).
Now they are asking people to reapply for BPL cards. Is this what governance means? This is a completely anti-people government. It’s a U-turn government.
B“After opposing the cancellation of cards, they are now backtracking and saying that ration cards will be returned immediately if applications are submitted. But when will these cards be reissued after applying? What should the poor eat until then?.
Bommai warned that this government will not last long if they continue such actions. They claim that the cards are being canceled as per the central government’s guidelines. But the central government is providing food to 80 crore people. In which other state have ration cards been canceled? Why is it happening only in Karnataka?.
He criticized the state government, saying,“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided rice. The state government had promised to distribute 10 kg but instead decided to give money.
Now,they say they don’t even have funds to provide money in lieu of rice. They are trying to cover up their failure with deceptive strategies. This is a sinful act,” he added.
