Mandya:Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai stated that the future of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah depends on the court’s decision,as the MUDA (Mysore Urban Development Authority) scandal is under trial in the court.
Speaking to the media in Mandya on Sunday,he said that this is not the first case referred to prosecution. Many such cases have occurred across various states, including Karnataka. This is an established system.
There are several Supreme Court judgments on this matter. An amendment was made in 2018,which has now become a topic of discussion.
The changes that occurred after the amendment under Article 17/2 of the Constitution need to be noted. It is unclear why Congress leaders are so concerned. The Governor has ordered an investigation.
In former CM B.S.Yediyurappa’s case, there was no investigation.A prosecution was recommended after the FIR,investigation, and charge sheet were filed.
However, without doing any of these, direct summons to the sessions court were issued. The then-Governor’s order was criticized in several courts, and judgments were passed.
Today, the Governor has merely ordered an investigation, which is now reaching its final stages in court. They must wait and see what will happen in court.
Responding to a question about Congress leaders meeting the Governor to seek permission for prosecution against BJP leaders,Bommai said that the Governor has already responded, saying that he has sought some information.
Whatever it may be,efforts should not be made to draw parallels between those cases and Siddaramaiah’s case. Since this case involves the head of the state, it will receive greater priority.
When asked whether Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will resign,Bommai replied that the CM’s continuation will depend on the court’s verdict.Regardless of any political analysis, the case is in court, and the decision on his future will be based on the court’s order.
The accusation that the state government is being destabilized is far from the truth and baseless. It is common to see such political allegations when there is an attempt to save oneself. This is not new; these are old tactics.
Responding to the alleged COVID scandal during the BJP government’s tenure,Bommai said the current government had formed a commission to investigate the COVID-related matters. The commission has submitted its report to the CM.
What it contains is unknown, but everything should come to light, and they will respond accordingly. There is no obstacle to investigating the scandals during our tenure.
Those who have made political allegations and tried to smear them should also face consequences.
Decision by leaders
In response to a question about the Channapatna by-election,Bommai said that discussions have been held with former Chief Minister and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.
He will discuss it with his party leaders, and a decision will be made by the BJP leaders and Kumaraswamy after consultations with NDA leadership.
