The Railway police on Wednesday arrested a 45-year-old salesman of a cloth shop who posing as custom officer created fake profile online to dupe women with marriage proposal .
Based on a complaint filed by a woman,the Government Railway police track down the accused based on the call record details and arrested him.
The woman had met him on matrimonial website and came to see him in the second week of January .
The accused who went to receive her borrowed Rs. 10,000 on the pretext of reserving a train ticket for his relative and had forgot the wallet at home .
After taking the cash,he left the woman and escaped and switched off his phone.After waiting for several hours and tried to reach him,the victim realized that she had been cheated and filed a complaint with the police.
Based on the complaint,Superintendent of Police,Dr.SK Soumyalatha formed a special team who tracked down the accused identified as Naresh Puri,45.
During Investigations revealed that the accused had created a fake Identity in the name of Ankit Jain and targeting women who advertised in matrimonial service .
Posing as custom officer, the accused contacted them for the last 2 years and cheated them with money.The police had recovered 250 contact number of women suspected to be the victims of his fraud.
The accused confessed that he was operating for the last two years and cheated three women with several thousand rupees,the police,said .
Further investigation revealed that Naresh Puri worked as a salesman at a cloth shop in Cottonpet.A native of Rajasthan,Naresh was married and had two children.
After working hours he started the con business for fun but took it as profession after few successful attempts.
He purchased two pre activated SIM cards in black and even created a fake FB account in the name of Ankit Jain with a fake picture .
One of the victim family had even helped him to enrol in Agrasenji matrimonial whatsapp group,using which the accused had duped several widows and divorcees .
The chat history recovered by the police during the course of investigations revealed that the accused had a chat with over 250 women with his marriage proposal across the country including 56 in Rajasthan,32 from Uttar Pradesh,17 from Karnataka,16 from Madhya Pradesh,13 from Maharastra,11 from Gujarat,6 from Tamilnadu,5 from Bihar and Jharkhand and two from Andhra Pradesh.
Many victims have not complained to the police fearing social stigma.
Deputy Inspector General of Police,Dr.SD,Sharanappa, who supervised the investigations requested the people to come forward and complain against the accused .
