The Cyber crime police have warned members of the general public against fake FB account in the name of former police commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji, seeking money from people randomly citing emergency.

Based on the complaint filed by Jabir Khan, resident of Thanisandra who was one of the victim, the police on Friday registered a case against an unknown person charging him under identity theft and impersonation under IT Act.

The accused had even used the photograph of Mr.Mirji in the DP of his account to make it look like the social media account is genuine. The police are now trying to track him down through the IP address .

The accused is not only impersonated as former commissioner but also tarnishing the image of the fomer senior IPS officer, the police, said .

This is the most common form of phishing as cyber crooks steal the identify theft to lure gullible people and cheat them,a senior officer said adding that the people should be careful and call the person concerned to cross check and make sure that the request was genuine .
