Passenger caught by Bengaluru Customs officials gold smuggling foiled seized 68 lakhs worth gold concealed in hollow handles of knives

The custom officials on Saturday caught a passenger trying to smuggle gold in the handle of a kitchen knife .

Based on profiling,the officials caught the passenger soon after he landed at KIA Airport from Dubai .

The officials recovered two Mercury coated gold rods concealed in hollow handles of Knives and also gold paste sprayed on paper and pasted on trays weighing 298.25 grams gold .

This is the novel way of gold smuggling discovered in the recent past, the official said adding that few days ago .

Last Friday,Customs officials had arrested a man from Kerala arrived from Oman and recovered over 1kg of gold paste,worth ₹ 68 lakh concealed in the specially designed waist belt pouch.

Earlier the custom officials of Mangaluru airport had also busted gold smuggling attempts from passengers concealed gold paste inside beading rods of trolley bags,Rhodium coated gold in wrist watch,ball pen, hair trimmer, wool scourer, car speakers, airpod and in a power adapters.
