·The Kannada Study Chair in JNU was started during the Chief Minister’s previous tenure.He took information about its activities and instructed to take action in this regard.
·The CM directed to implement a uniform calendar of events as the activities of different universities are held for different periods causing inconvenience to the candidates.Officials informed that Higher Education Council is into action in this regard.
· The CM opined that recruitment of teaching staff is very important to maintain the quality of the education sector.In this background,priority should be given to fill Kalyana Karnataka and backlog posts.He also instructed the officials of Finance and Higher Education department to fill the vacant posts in a phased manner in the higher education department
*Since the system of LMS is introduced in Higher education institutions,discussions were held about distributing laptops and tablets to the students and stipend to the Ph.D students in the meeting.
·He directed officials to take immediate action for the construction of a hostel to accommodate one thousand girl students each of Arts and Science College in Mysore Maharani Arts College hostel premises at an estimated cost of 99 crores.
·Rs.47 crore is available in the departmentand he directed the finance department officials that additional grants should be provided in the next year’s budget
·Further, he asked to submit a proposal immediately regarding the renovation/construction of of Maharani Science College,Mysore,which is in a dilapidated condition.He also said that on the occasion of Dussehra,he would visit Maharani College and inspect it.
·Most of the children belong to poor and lower middle class families.A well-equipped hostel needs to be constructed for their convenience.He recalled that he had announced a grant in the budget for the construction of this hostel in his previous term.
·The CM gave instructions to prioritize the improvement of 16 government engineering colleges in the state.
·Since the universities were divided,the issue of distribution of pension of the old 5 universities was discussed in the meeting.
·Directions were given to take measures to improve financial discipline,transparency in recruitment and other issues in the higher education sector.
·The CM was appraised about the fact that backward Classes Welfare Department is ready to take 224 hostels with a capacity of 13169 students that are constructed under Higher Education Department and he directed to bring this matter before the cabinet meeting.
·He suggested that, FD officer should hold meetings with higher education and school education departments to identify the measures to be taken to improve the quality of the education sector and discussions should be held and proposals should be submitted in advance.
