Karnataka State Police bid adieu to Hindi and English commands during parades and replace them with Kannada.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda said the Present IGP Central Range Dr.BR Ravikanthe Gowda,has played a crucial role in translating English and Hindi commands into Kannada when he was the SP of Belagavi district.The personnel were also trained to issue and respond to Kannada commands.

Barring in Belagavi,police in the state have been issuing English and Hindi commands, borrowed from the Indian Army.

This has been shift to Kannada is going to make a huge difference.One such attempt in 1980s however turned out to unsuccessful,recalled a source at the DGP office.

committee formed in 2017 and headed by then ADGP (admin) S Parashivamurthy went through different police manuals and submitted a report to the state police chief.Also,on March 7 this year,the committee visited Belagavi and looked into the demonstration of Kannada commands and came back impressed,said an official.

Police will bid adieu to Hindi and English commands during parades and replace them with Kannada.

The then DG-IGP Neelamani Raju has written to the government in 2019.And formed a committee to implement kannada commands.

Sources in the state police head’s office said the letter was sent recently to the Deputy secretary (police services), home department.

A list of Kannada commands has been prepared and implemented only in Belagavi district since 2016.
