Two Smugglers arrested by Girinagar Police recovered 25.5 kgs elephant tusks

The Girinagar police on Thursday arrested two people and recovered 25.5 Kgs of elephant tusk which they were trying to sell .

The accused have been identified as Ravi Kumar,45 from Kanakapura and Somashekhar,58,from Ramanagara.

The duo told the police that they are labourers by profession and found the dead elephant in forest area of Kanakapura and removed the tusk few months ago and buried the body.

The tusk they were trying to sell through different source and were caught red handed while awaiting for the customers in Girinagar.

However the police suspect that they are part of the poacher gang and efforts are on to check their network .

The duo have been booked under wildlife protection act and taken into custody to take them to the scene of crime to ascertain the fact.

The forest officials are in the dock for for not keeping a tab on conducting patrolling if the accused claim of dead elephant is true”,a senior officer, said.
