Special court grants bail to Virupakshappa in bribery case

The special court granted conditional bail to suspended Channagiri MLA,Madal Virupakshappa on Saturday.

While granting bail Judge B Jayanth Kumar asked Madal to furnish rupees five lakh bond and two sureties,appear before Lokayukta whenever summoned,surrender passport,not to visit KSDL and not to tamper with evidence .

The accused was booked under Prevention of Corruption act for demanding bribe from the firm which supplied chemicals to the KSDL.

His son Prashanth Madal was trapped red handed while accepting cash Rs.40 lakh at a office on crescent road.

The police also searched Madal house and recovered hard cash worth over Rs.6 crore.

Madal managed to obtain conditional bail even though later appeared he did not cooperate with the investigations,following which the Lokayukta officials approached the High court and got his conditional bail cancelled and within hours Madal was arrested by Lokayukta police on March 27.

He was taken into five days custody and questioned in detail before he was remanded to judicial custody till April 11 and the court directed the Lokayukta officials to file their objection for bail.
