TMC again defeats BJP in Nandigram Veturia cooperative polls- won in all 12 seats

Abhijit Ray, Kolkata:Nandigram got disturbed again around the election of the Agricultural Cooperative Society and the  Trinamool-BJP conflict spilled blood again. A total of 10 people were injured on both sides. The condition of five of them is said to be critical. The situation around the Veturia cooperative elections was heated since Friday morning. Both sides had a tussle during the polling and counting which led to tensions and prompted the police to intervene throughout the day.  Later, Trinamool (TMC) and BJP (BJP) party supporters got indulged into a fight.  Nandigram, which witnessed a controversial defeat of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee to the leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari in the last Assembly polls, came to the limelight again on Friday TMC  when BJP snatched away a cooperative body from the opposition party BJP  in an election.TMC won 1w out of 12 seats at Veturia cooperative agriculture samiti under the hot assembly constituency. The lone seat which went to the TMC had a margin of only one vote with the BJP. Total 12 seats in Veturia Cooperative Society. Trinamool won one seat unopposed. Elections for the remaining 11 seats are underway on Friday. The main fight is between Trinamool and BJP. CPM has fielded candidates in 6 seats. Around 11 am, Trinamool and BJP supporters clashed with each other. A bloodbath ensued. Trinamool complains that BJP is preventing voting. Trinamool President of Nandigram No. 2 Block ArunabhBhuinya said, “BJP is preventing voting. Our workers and supporters are being beaten. 10 of us are injured, 5 are in critical condition. The BJP has created an absolute mess.” On behalf of BJP, local leader Meghnad Pal counterclaimed, “We are not the obstacle, they are not allowing us to vote.” They are beating us instead. Police forces were deployed in the area to control the situation. Nandigram police said that the situation is currently under control. However, Ghassful’s huge success in this election with Shuvendu Adhikari is undoubtedly a cause for concern for GeruaShibir.
