Alert Chikkaballapura police on Sunday arrested a 29-year-old man who used to cheat gullible people on the pretext of helping them to withdraw cash from ATMs.
Senior officer told reporters,The accused N.Sagar, a factory employee from Bhadravathy has been arrested while he was moving suspiciously at the Canara bank ATM in Chikkaballapura town.
The police recovered three ATM cards from his pocket and cash Rs 1.45 lakh from him. A detailed questioning led him to confess to the crime.
It is found that the accused Sagar would wait at the ATM to lure gullible people and offer to help them to withdraw the cash.
He would take out the cash and divert their attention to replace the card with the duplicate card and escape .
Since he knew the PIN number,he would withdraw the cash from another ATM and used the card to cheat other people .
Using this modus operandi the accused have cheated many people in Shomoga,Yadgir, KR Nagar, Kunigal, Goribidanur, Gubbi, Shira and Ijoor police station limits.
The accused has been charged under cheating and taken into custody to investigate further to ascertain his network.
