Bengaluru: Massive rush at IKEA’s new outlet launch, Nagasandra Metro station packed with commuters,cops deployed parking arrangements made at BIEC : BTP

nable to handle the crowd at the IKEA shopping mall of Home furnishings,people thronged the venue mistaking it as Multiplex and other entertainment choking the area .

The traffic police deployed additional force to manage the traffic and also using the social media, public announcement system and radio services to tell people that it was a home furnishing expo and did not have multiplex facilities .

The IKEA complex has 1400 car parking facility & metro train service is available, which is very well connected to Nagasandra metro.

But due to the weekend a crowd of 15,000 to 20,000 people in their private vehicle thronged the venue thiking it is another shopping mall with multiplex facilities choking the area.

As many as 50 police personnel in shifts along with the staff of the IKEA deployed at strategic locations and at the entry and exit of the venue to inform people not to drive into the venue and cause further choking.

After a long gap,the police using towing vehicles to pull out the vehicles parked hapazardly to allow other vehicles to pass through,Kuldeep Kumar,R Jain,DCP traffic,West division,said .

There is no penalty imposed but the towing vehicle used to clear the hapazard parking,he added .

There is ample car parking space is provided to IKEA customers in BIEC grounds,Madavara which is very much connected to NICE road.

Shuttle bus services available from BIEC grounds to IKEA venue, which is totally free of cost.

Announcement and direction boards are placed on Tumkur road and Jindal under pass people are requested to follow the guidelines to avoid huge traffic congestion on Tumkur road.

Heavy goods vehicles and weekend traffic on Tumakuru road will be a disrupted majorly,Mr. Jain said requesting the people to avoid use private vehicles unnecessary and co-operate.
