Action to reduce traffic congestion at prominent places: CM Bommai

he Chief Minister chaired a meeting on the Traffic Management in Bengaluru with officials of BBMP,BWSSB,Urban Development,Police and other departments.

The Chief Minister wanted the officials of BBMP, BWSSB,BMRCL and BESCOM to work in coordination under the overall supervision of Additional Chief Secretaries of Urban Development and Home departments to formulate measures for easing traffic congestion in the city.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has instructed the officials to take measures to reduce traffic congestion at 10 prominent spots including Hebbal,Mahadevapura Outer Ring Road,Silk Board Junction and Whitefield Road which witness huge traffic jams.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday during his visit announced to improve connectivity in the capital and to make Bengaluru free from traffic jams,Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai convened a meeting with the senior officials of the traffic, BBMP and other civic agencies to discuss the traffic decongestion plans.

After hearing the presentation on the traffic scenario of the city,Mr.Bommai said work on the traffic signal synchronization to keep the traffic flow and decongest the major junctions which cause major concern among the motorists.

Mr. Bommai also directed the city police commissioner to depute senior police officer of the rank of DCP to supervise the progress of the projects at their jurisdictional level .

He also earmarked Rs.48 crore for the signal synchronization .

Getting a details on the conditions of roads across the city,Mr.Bommai also directed the BBMP officials to fill the potholes and repair the block spots at the earliest .

The roads connecting national highways should be have a free flow of traffic and asked the traffic police to work to improve the conditions of the roads connecting NH and the city entry.

Installation of enforcement cameras at every strategic locations should be taken up immediately .

The measures would include synchronisation of traffic signals and removing the obstacles for smooth flow of traffic.

Bommai wanted the works to be supervised by DCPs of the concerned area.

He issued strict orders for filling the potholes on roads connecting the National Highways and taking up immediate repair works at about 50 spots which witness flooding whenever it rains.

Signal synchronisation

Bommai asked the officials to start the work on signal synchronisation in CBD,High Traffic Density Corridors corridors in the city.

The problem caused by frequent digging of roads by various civic agencies like BWSSB,BMRCL,and leaving the debris without covering the dug-up roads also came up for discussion.

The Chief Minister wanted the dug up roads to be relaid properly and debris cleared immediately.

DGP Praveen Sood was asked to raise the strength of the Traffic Police personnel and focus on measures to ease traffic congestion.

The need to install cameras at traffic junctions under the Nirbhaya scheme was also stressed.

The Chief Minister instructed the officials to clear the encroachments on arterial,sub-arterial and high density roads without showing any leniency and submit a report on the actions taken.

I will again hold zone-wise meetings to review the actions taken,Bommai said.
