Three drowned after went to Swim in Doddagubbi lake

Three boys including a 10th standard student fear drowned after they went to swim in Doddagubbi Lake in Kothanuru on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Imran Pasha, (17),helper at a mall in the city,Mubharak Rehaman, (17), a welder and Sahil Ahemed, (15), student of 10th standard .

The fire and emergency personnel rushed to the spot and launched search operations till late in the evening and suspended due to bad light and would commence the search operations on friday.

A senior police officer said that five of the friends had come to the lake around 2.30pm and after a while three of them jumped into the lake together by holding hands.

Two of their friends Abdul Rahman,18 and Shahid,17,stayed back since they did not know swimming and were watching it by standing at the tank bund and noticed that they were drowning.

They screamed for help prompting the passersby to rushed to their help and jumped into the lake to search them.

But as he did not find them, the residents alerted Kothanur police who called fire and emergency personnel.

A team searched the bodies till 7pm and later called off the search operation.

We start search on Friday morning as the lake has lot of silt and will take more time, an fire officer said.

The investigation officer said that the victims had come to the lake a week ago and did swimming in the lake for a while.

They had taken a video in their mobile phone and later uploaded it into their social media.

Their friends who showed the excitement after watching the video asked them to show the lake and thus they all decided to venture into the lake once again and had taken an auto rickshaw to the reach the lake. Two of them did not know swimming and thus denied to jump into the lake.

Based on a complaint by the eyewitness,a case of unnatural death has been registered and further investigations are on.
