The SDPI has agreed in principle to support the Congress party in the by – elections to be held in Thrikkakara on May 30. Thrikkakara is an area where SDPI has a huge influence.
PT Thomas,who won with a majority of 20,000 votes last time,came to the polls with his death.
Although the Congress party has a strong constituency,Uma Thomas,the wife of PT Thomas, is the Congress candidate.But Congress sources say victory will not be easy.
The Congress reckons it can win with a wave of sympathy.Moreover, this is the first election held in Thrikkakara since Muhammad-Shias became the DCC president of Ernakulam.
The capture of Thrikkakara is a matter of pride for the Left Front.The position of 20:20 is also crucial in the coming days.
Moreover, the BJP estimates that the arrest of PC George by the Palarivattom police will lead to communal polarization.
However,in Thrikkakara,the Congress is not as confident as it used to be.
The fact that many senior Congress leaders are secretly and openly against K Sudhakaran and VD Satheesan is of great concern to other leaders and activists.
It was for these reasons that the Congress-Party led to a secret relationship with the SDPI.It is learned that such a secret understanding was reached with the help of Mohammad Shias VD Satheesan.
