Minister R Ashoka sets 15 days deadline to demolish old building &Action against contractors for poor road repair work

A meeting was conveyed for providing relief for people died due to potholes, COVID-19 and dilapidated buildings by Revenue minister R Ashoka at BBMP head office.

Due to the heavy rain lashed out in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits,the potholes could not be filled in a given time frame.

Due to this,a time frame of October 10 for main roads and October 20 to 25 ward roads have to be filled and a strict instructions have been given, said revenue minister,R Ashoka.

After a meeting held to discuss relief for people died due to Covid-19,potholes and dilapidated buildings,minister told reporters,from Palike’s Hot Mix Plant around 16 load of tar is being brought,and around 12 days there was continuous rains and due to which producing bitumen mix (gravel) was difficult which affected the deadlines to complete the filling up of roads.

During other days,dedicatedly the road works were completed, he said.

City’s,important arterial roads,sub-arterial roads and ward roads a total of 13,874 kms long roads are there.

In this,heavy traffic roads where arterial and sub-arterial are around 1,344kms long,895 kms long roads are in good condition and remaining 449 kms road length are dilapidated and around 246 kms long roads have already been filled.

Remaining 203 kms long roads are pending for filling potholes and by October 10 this work will also get completed.

Till date,to fill the potholes on the roads, around 585 load tar has been utilised.Still,in the outer circle 110 villages attached to the city the BESCOM and Water board has been working to provide the facilities and hence the roads are damaged.

For this,the GoK has released 1,000 crores, tender process has come to completion,in the coming 10-20 days complete road asphalting work should be completed and necessary steps are taking in this regard,he said.

In Palike’s Hot Mix Plant everyday 30 load of tar and respective ward roads pothole filling work Rs.20 lakhs have been allocated and hence whoever contractors are being assigned for the work are being instructed to complete the work as soon as possible,he said.

“Inspection of dilapidated buildings”

In the BBMP limits in 2019 185 buildings were inspected and surveyed.In that 10 buildings were demolished and remaining 175 buildings a notice to the building owners need to be sent,and, BESCOM has to be intimated to cut the power supply and respective zonal police stations to be intimated to take up the demolition work, said the minister.

In the next 15 days,city’s dilapidated buildings survey and inspection to be completed and a report will be submitted.

And based on the notice issued to the owners of these buildings, the demolition work will be taken up by the officials as instructed. Also, whatever the cost incurred to the BBMP for this demolition work will be charged to the owners property and the same will be collected, he said.

Relief for people died due to Covid”

Around 15,000 people in the BBMP limits have died due to Covid. As per this information from respective wards,the numbers should be taken and within next 15 days a list will be prepared.

In the BPL segment,RS.1.5 lakhs and for general public, Rs 50,000 will be given as a relief.The compensation will be given as soon as possible and a program will be held in the city’s National College grounds for this,said minister, R Ashoka.
