Sandalwood Smuggler Held In Bengaluru, Logs Worth Rs 3.4 Lakh Seized

The Hennur police on Monday nabbed a sandalwood smuggler from Tamilnadu and recovered 114 kgs of sandalwood logs worth Rs.3.4 lakhs from him.

The accused have been identified as Sampath Mani,27,from Thirupathur in Tamil Nadu.

DCP East, Dr SD Sharanappa told media persons,that as on 2nd April when our Hennur police inspector was on morning rounds received a credible information that four persons have come in car and are cutting the sandalwood tree located in Temple premises.

Based on information Inspector,Vasanth Kumar and his team acted swiftly and rushed to spot and noticed that four persons are shifting the sandalwood logs in a car as soon as they noticed police party Sensing trouble three of them managed to flee but police pinned down Mani along with the car loaded with sandalwood logs.

During investigation the accused confessed the crime and said that he along with three of his associates after doing thorough survey about the the sandalwood trees in Shanimahatma temple premises and planned to cut the trees and were transporting it to their village to give it to their clients and make quick buck.

The accused Mani has been arrested and 114 kg Sandalwood logs Worth Rs.3.4 lakhs and car used to transport also has been seized.A case has been registered and massive manhunt is on to nab the three absconding accused.

Finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant has appreciated Addl CP East,S Murugan, DCP East,Dr SD Sharanappa,ACP Banaswadi Sub-Division,Ningappa B Sakkri PI,Vasanth Kumar M,PSI,Abbas Tikote,Probationary PSI,Somnath NN,and crime staff as,Bheemana,Gopal,Pavan Singh,and Ravindra KN has been appreciated for the exemplary work done by them in nabbing the sandalwood smuggler and a suitable reward will be given to the team he added.
