Conman dies after jumping from third floor while he was in police custody

A 60-year-old accused allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from the balcony of his flat in Vidyaranyapura on Friday afternoon.

Senior officer said,the Accused was arrested in a cheating and forgery case jumped out in a bid to end his life from the kitchen of his apartment while the police team had taken him for mahazar at the apartment in vidyaranyapura where he was living ,on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Siddalingaswamy was arrested by Hanumanthanagar police for allegedly cheating a man promising to get BDA corner site and taken RS.16 lakh from him.

He was facing charges of duping several people by luring them to allot a site in Bengaluru.He was arrested on February 24 and court had granted police custody on February 25.

Based on the complaint the police arrested him and taken him to his house for recovery and spot inspection.

The accused was humiliated as his wife came to know about his crime.

Unable to bear this he went to kitchen and jumped through the windown from third floor.

The injured was rushed to hospital for treatment and was declared brought dead by the doctor.

During investigation it was revealed that his primary job used to leave home like any other government servant and he used to wait in BDA premises for gullible investors.

He used to impersonate as BDA official and gather information and collect money from them in lieu of allotment of new site or exchanging site on of BDA layouts,the office said.

The deceased had leaded a lavish life of government official for the last several decades and even his wife and daughter had believed it for the last several decades.

The police has recovered fake letterheads,stamp papers,seals and other materials that are needed to allot BDA sites from his house.

Vidyaranyapura Police have taken up a case and are investigating further he added.
