Kamal Pant is Bengaluru’s New Police Chief, Bhaskar Rao transferred :

The Karnataka government on Friday appointed senior IPS officer Kamal Pant as the new Bengaluru City Police Commissioner.

Bhaskar Rao,IPS was replaced by his batch mate and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), State Intelligence,Kamal Pant with immediate effect.Both Rao and Pant belong to the 1990 group of the Indian Police Service.

Rao took charge as city police commissioner on August 2 and has served one year.

Kamal Pant,a 1990 batch of Indian Police Service officer,had served as Superintendent of Police in various districts and also Additional Commissioner for law and order in Bengaluru City.

Kamal Pant, a 1990 batch IPS officer will assume charge as Bengaluru police commissioner on August 1st at his office.

Pant is senior most in ADGP rank and also served as ADGP in KSRP,Administration and intelligence Division.He is known for administrative skills,including the reforms he brought in prisons.

B Dayananda,ADGP,Criminal Investigation Department and Economic Offences, was also transferred as ADGP,Bengaluru intelligence.

There were two more names were doing the rounds apart from Pant,ADGP Fire and emergency services Sunil Agarwal (1991 batch) and ADGP recruitment and training Amrit Paul (1995) who was promoted as ADGP in January end and youngest ADGP.

When Bhaskar Rao became the City Police Commissioner, Kamal Pant was designated as ADGP intelligence at the same time as part of his previous term.

Interestingly, both Rao and Pant are from the 1990 IPS batch that passed out from Sardar Vallabhai Patel Academy, Hyderabad.

The development will be a milestone in the career of both the officers as Rao held office during one of the worst times during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and ensured no law and order situation was created during the lockdown and also stood by his men who were assaulted in one of the two cases by public.

Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa appointed Bhaskar Rao as the city’s police chief on August 2, 2019, a week after taking office on July 26, 2019, replacing Alok Kumar, who is ADGP (KSRP) .

ADGP B Dayananda (1994 )batch from the Department of Criminal Investigation (CID) and Economic Crime has been transferred as ADGP (Intelligence) in Bangalore,replacing Kamal Pant.
