Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has initiated Standardization of Media and Entertainment Services. To take it further, the first meeting of the Media and Entertainment Services Sectional Committee (SSD 13) was conducted. It was chaired by Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President – Asian Academy of Film & Television (AAFT). The meeting was attended by members representing Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Prasar Bharti and other stakeholders from all across the media and entertainment industry.
The meeting also witnessed participation from Industry, Industry Organizations, Newspaper Association of India, Educational and Training Institutes like Media and Entertainments Skills Council (MESC), Star India, Yashraj Films, PVR Ltd, FICCI, CII, Airtel Digital TV, Jagaran Prakashan Ltd, Zee TV, Event and Entertainment Management Association (EEMA) etc.
During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on subjects to be taken up for Standardization. Considering the vast scope of the Committee, 9 sub-committees are formulated to take up the work of Standardization in the respective area. The sub-committees include Education and Skill Development Sub-Committee, Cinema Services Sub-Committee, Print Media Services Sub-Committee, Radio Services Sub-Committee, Event Management Services Sub-Committee, Television and OTT Services Sub-Committee, New Media Services Sub-Committee, Sound and Music Services Sub-Committee and Advertising Services Sub-Committee.
The Committee also formulated two panels, first for preparation of ‘Strategy and Roadmap Document’ for Standardization in Media and Entertainment Services Sector and second panel to discuss piracy issues in the Media and Entertainment Services Sector. The committee recommended that relevant Standards to combat the issue be formulated.
