In a major breakthrough, sleuths of the Central Crime Branch arrested 16 people in connection with the alleged leak of police sub-inspector exam question papers.
After conducting raids across the State, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested 16 people who allegedly cheated aspiring sub-inspectors by promising them question paper for the written recruitment test, which was held on Sunday, in exchange for money. In the end, however, no paper was given to the candidates.
The arrested in PSI question paper leak case: Basavaraj (40), Holiyappa (38), Santosh (31), Nagaraj, Dilip Kumar (32), Yadukumar M N (41), Karthik Reddy (23), Suresh (37), Nagaraju (45), ASI, wireless, Bengaluru, Harsha Kumar (52), Shivakumar Madakeshwara (24) from Tumakuru, Bhagyawantha Sagare (24) from Koppala, Arun Ramappa Mahareddy (25) from Belgaum, Hanumesh (24) from Belgaum, Neelamma Karegonda (24) from Raichur, Jayashree Rathod (27) from Bagalkote and Bhimashankar Rathod (53) from Vijayapura, a teacher.
The police have recovered Rs.41.2 lakh in cash,cheques worth Rs.3 lakh as well as blank cheques given by candidates to the accused.
There was no question of a paper leak and the accused were duping the candidates. They were trying to access the question paper from their sources, before the CCB busted the racket and arrested them.
The CCB teams were shadowing them and main operator as main agents of Tumakuru,Hosakote and other districts and state they were in CCB’s radar.
A team headed by B.Venugopal with inspector Harish and other raided a place in Gokak at around 11.30 pm and nabbed successfully eight accused.
The accused, Shivakumaraiah, was the kingpin in the PU question paper leak case of 2016 and was booked under the Karnataka Control of Crimes Act (KCOCA), 2000.
Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime,Alok Kumar told media persons, that the racket came to light when the CCB was probing the BMTC or KSRTC recruitment question paper leak case reported a few days ago.The accused Somappa Yamanappa Melinamani, 34, who topped the BTMC written exam, had been arrested by the Wilson Garden police on January 7.He was later handed over to the CCB where he confessed that he passed the exam with the help of Basappa Bhajantri Nimgod, owner of a coaching centre, who provided him with the question paper for Rs.2 lakh.Based on his confession of crime We arrested a man named Somalingappa who topped the BMTC recruitment exams he hailed from Bijapur.He revealed that a man named Basavaraj had given him the papers.We arrested him,we subjected him to interrogation and we learnt that they had a plan of leaking the PSI exam papers.CCB officials tracked down Basappa Bhajantri, owner of Chanakya Career Academy in Vijayapura.Based on the information given by him, the police arrested the perpetrators of the police exam racket.Their Modus Operandi was to lure candidates without the question papers.They gathered the aspirants at a place and used to hand over the papers as soon as they received it they always had the aspirants on the move from one place to another they were keep on changing the place like Gandhinagar,Nelamangala and other areas and were luring candidates there were around 27 people in Gokak we arrested 8 of them.Basavaraj and Holiyappa are brothers they knew Shivakumar from 2004, and were involved in cases earlier.They acted as coordinators between the gangs that operated in South and north karnataka.We have to nab everyone involved in the PUC paper leak case.We are seeing that question papers of every exam are getting leaked in the state.During questioning the candidates arrested from Gokak were told that getting the question paper was difficult and they had to face the exams on their own with this the genuine candidates are bearing the brunt of their acts.We are taking measures to put an end to the menace in the state he added.
DCP Crime,Girish S,told media persons that,we got information that the mafia was about to abort its plan of selling the papers they knew that the CCB was present in vijayapura in large number from which they were scared and they said candidates of Vijayapura to go away and asked for Bengaluru candidates as our team was occupied in Vijayapura and they were shadowing them as main agents we have kept all of them in our radar and dint gave them any chance to leak the question paper of the exam which was held on Sunday 13th January and getting scared they were asking from candidates from Bengaluru and this operation is very very important for the coming days and in coming days Alok Kumar sir will personally visit the northern range to supervise the coaching centres and he will commence a meeting with them and will warn them to stop all those question paper leak business and luring innocent candidates by promising them to give question papers of the respective exams he added.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner,T.Suneel Kumar,Addl CP Crime,Alok Kumar, along with DCP Crime,Girish S held a press conference at his office and said reporters that the team was tipped off with the concrete evidence as soon as we got information that some persons are trying to leak PSI Recruitment exam question paper immediately Addl CP Crime,Alok Kumar formed a nine different teams under the supervision of DCP Crime,Girish S,the team swung into action and occupied several state and kept all the coaching centres and some main agents were in their Radar and it was a secret operation was done by our team and once they started disbursing we picked them as they were gathered at one place and agents started telling this time you appear for exam we can’t do anything let us see next time as they were totally scared as CCB people were into their operation and have occupied several state and district and they kept main agents in their radar and have arrested totally 16 members gang including two women and 1 police personnel teachers and tutors too were in the gang. On November 25,2018 we cracked down on the mafia and arrested a total of 131 people.While we were investigating the constable question paper leak case,We got a tip-off that some people were luring candidates claiming that they had the question papers of the PSI exams and they have even collected 65 lakhs from the aspirants to give them question papers and lured them our team tracked them down by teams headed by ACPs as,Venugopal and team with Balaraj and team as the mafia had spread rumors that they had the question papers of the PSI exams with them.We arrested 16 people and recovered 41.2 Lakhs cash,Blank cheques, with cheques worth Rs.3 Lakhs laptops and printers.Among the accused were three police personnel, teachers, and tutors of coaching centres in and around the State.Two of the accused police personnel constables escaped the raid, and efforts are on to nab them and we suspect that more people are involved in the scam.Nine CCB teams conducted simultaneous raids in Bengaluru, Belagavi, Tumakuru, and Vijayapura and they are still on Job on field and are gathering information.Many of the accused own coaching centres and have links to Shivakumaraiah alias Guruji, who is the key accused in two paper leak scams, including the PU chemistry paper. He is currently in judicial custody.There are many candidates who were in contact with the accused.An assistant sub-inspector, C. Nagaraj, attached to the wireless department in Bengaluru, is among the accused. Besides Nagaraj, the other two arrested are H. Basavaraj, 40, and H. Holiyappa, 38, drivers and friends of Shivakumaraiah alias Guruji.  Shivakumaraiah was arrested in 2016 for the second PU question paper leak and is a prime accused in a recent case of question paper leak of civil police constable exams.The CCB seized 26 backpacks from candidates who fled during the raids. The sleuths will now prepare a report on these candidates.They will write to the concerned departments with the details seeking legal action against the candidates.The CCB will be filing a report with the Recruitment and Training Department with details of the accused seeking legal action.Such candidates should not be allowed to attend any competitive exam conducted by the government and they will be debarred permanently,and finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,T.Suneel Kumar,has appreciated,Addl CP Crime,Alok Kumar,DCP,Crime,Girish.S,ACPs as,B.R.Venugopal,B.Balaraju,P.T. Subramanya,PIs,as,Niranjan who is the I.O. of the case,Harish,Sudhakar,Rajeev,Murugendra,Anjan Kumar,Keshavamurthy and other inspectors and staff of 25 members who has done a commendable and tremendous job with all efforts and busted the biggest racket of question paper leak Mafia and nabbed 16 people successfully and all the 16 accused has been produced before the court and are sent to police custody for further investigation and a cash reward of Rs.1 lakh will be given to the team who has worked hard in making this operation success he added.
